Role of Mathematical Model in Curbing COVID-19 in Nigeria

COVID-19 is a viral disease that caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) which has no approved vaccine. Based on the available non-pharmacological interventions like wearing of face masks, observing social distancing, and lockdown, this work assesses impact non-pharmaceutical control measures (social distancing use face-masks) mass testing transmission in Nigeria. A mathematical model for formulated with intervention (observing masks) testing. The basic reproduction number, R_0, computed using next-generation method while disease-free equilibrium found to be locally globally asymptotically stable when R_0< 1. parameterized Nigeria data number less than unity (R_0 < 1) either compliance moderate (50% <= alpha< 70%) rate per day (0,5 <=alpha_2 0,7) or strict (alpha>=70%) poor (alpha_2 = 0,3). This implies will able halt spread under these two conditions. However, it easier enforce presence due limited availability facilities manpower Hence, study advocates Nigerian governments (Federal States) should aim at achieving least 0.3 ensuring all citizens strictly comply masks public.
